Solutions

Welcome to Birgitta Smits Mediation and Conflict Resolution for employment and businessrelated matters.

Conflicts occur everywhere and everyone encounters them at some point. I consider a conflict as an opportunity for renewal, provided that it is addressed in time. If the conflict is addressed in a targeted manner, the (working) relationship can be reset, allowing those involved to move on.

Since 2014 I specialize in strengthening the conflict resolution capacity of organizations and individuals. This means that I work in the field of analysis, prevention, support and resolution of conflicts. I have extensive experience in individual and group mediations, conflict resolution within organizations and teams, training in mediation skills and advice on conflict management.

My work experience abroad, including in the United States, Suriname, Bangladesh and Belgium, has made me very experienced in working with people from different cultural backgrounds.

I work in both Dutch and English.

Services

Mediation

  • As a mediator I am registered at the Mediators federation Netherlands (MfN) and (board) member of relevant professional associations.

  • In my mediations I create a safe environment for the participants to discuss their problems and find solutions.

Facilitation

  • Facilitate dialogue; if communication is difficult, this can be an effective way to get the conversation back on track.

Frequently asked questions

What happens when I enter a mediation?

You will first have a separate intake meeting with the mediator. Then, depending on everyone's agenda, the first joint mediation meeting will take place at a suitable (neutral) location. If agreement is reached, the mediator will put the agreements on paper.

What process is followed during the mediation?

During a mediation meeting, you follow a mediation process. This process ensures that you move from the positions in which you are stuck to talking about your interests and needs. Understanding these interests and needs from each other, creates room to generate options for solutions and make a choice for the best solution.

What characterizes mediation?

Confidentiality. Process guidance by a neutral third party. Voluntariness. No obligations until you sign an agreement. For more information, check www.mfn.nl
